Most self-storage in London still works the old way: hire a van, load it yourself, drive to a depot, push everything down a corridor into a unit you have never seen, then repeat the whole trip every time you need something back. RMV Storage & Removals was set up to take those steps away. We bring a storage container to your door, our crew loads it, and we take it to our secure warehouse in Rainham, East London. When you want your belongings back, the same container comes back to you, either to the address it left from or to a new one.

Because we run the vans, the crews and the storage ourselves, one team looks after your belongings from the moment they leave your home until the moment they come back. There are no subcontractors, no handovers between companies, and you deal with the same people all the way through.

How Container Storage Works

Every container is the same size: 155 cm wide, 215 cm deep and 245 cm tall. That gives you 35 square feet of floor space and 280 cubic feet (8 cubic metres) of volume, which is enough for the contents of a large bedroom or a small studio flat. Bigger homes simply use more containers. As a guide, one container suits students, a single room or overflow from a busy house; two suit a one-bedroom flat with a modest amount of furniture; three handle a typical two-bedroom flat; four cover a well-furnished two- or three-bedroom property; five suit a three- or four-bedroom home; and six will take the contents of a four- or five-bedroom family house.

On collection day the container arrives with the crew. Items are loaded in a planned order so that space is used well and nothing heavy sits on anything fragile. Once everything is in, the container is sealed in front of you and driven to our warehouse. It stays sealed and stacked there until you ask for it, so your belongings are not unpacked, moved between units or handled by strangers while they are in storage. The site is protected by 24-hour CCTV, intruder alarms and perimeter security fencing, and the containers are kept dry and ventilated.

Clear Storage Prices, No Fixed Contract

Storage costs £19.99 per container per week, and the price scales in a straight line as you add containers. There is no fixed contract and no minimum term. Storage unit rental runs on a rolling basis, so you only pay for the weeks you actually use and the space you actually fill. There are no access fees tucked away in the small print and no price jump after an introductory offer.

Loading is priced separately and depends on how many containers you need, from £140 for one container with a team of two (1.5 hours minimum) up to £590 for six containers with a team of four (3 hours minimum), all including VAT. At booking we take payment in advance for the minimum loading time only. If the job runs longer, extra time is charged in 30-minute increments and confirmed when the work is finished. The loading rates cover delivery of the container and loading. Packing, dismantling and wrapping of furniture are charged separately, so tell us at booking if you would like the crew to take care of them and we will include them in your quote. If you live in a high-rise building with a lift, let us know in advance and we will bring a special trolley to speed things up.

If you would rather bring your things to us yourself, self drop-off and collection at the warehouse is free, Monday to Friday from 8am to 4pm, and on Saturdays by appointment. Storage and Removals in One Job

A lot of our storage work starts with a house move. Chains break, completion dates slip and new builds are finished late. When the gap between moving out and moving in is days or months rather than hours, storage during a house move keeps things simple. Our London removals company can pack and load your home straight into containers on moving day, hold everything at the warehouse for as long as the chain needs, and then deliver to your new home once you have the keys. The move and the storage run as one coordinated job, handled by the same crew from start to finish.

Not every job needs a full removals team. If you are storing a single room of furniture before building work, clearing a rented flat between tenancies or collecting a few pieces from several addresses, our man and van service collects, loads and delivers in one trip, at a price that matches the size of the job.

If your move goes further than London, our international removals team handles shipping, customs paperwork and delivery abroad. Anything that is not travelling can stay in storage here until you decide what to do with it, which suits people relocating for work who want to keep a base of belongings in the UK without keeping a property. We also offer storage for moves to and from Europe.

Packing for Storage

Good packing makes a real difference to how your belongings come out of storage. Mattresses should be bagged to keep them clean and dry. Glass, china and ornaments should be wrapped one by one and packed tightly so they cannot move. Wardrobes, beds and tables store better dismantled and flat than standing upright, and boxes should be labelled on the side as well as the top so you can find things quickly. Keep heavy boxes small and light boxes large, and never store food, liquids, gas bottles or anything flammable.
