Frequently Asked Questions
How much does a house removal in London cost?
The cost of a London house removal depends on the size of your property, the distance of the move, floor and parking access at both ends, and the volume of belongings. Because every move is different, we provide a free, no-obligation quote tailored to your job rather than a fixed list price. Contact us with your addresses and an idea of what needs moving and we will give you a clear, all-inclusive price.
How long does a removal take?
It depends on the volume of items, access at both properties (stairs, lifts, parking distance), and the journey between them. A small flat can often be completed in a few hours, while a larger house move may take most of a day. We assess this at quotation stage and assign the right size team and vehicle so the move runs efficiently.
How far in advance should I book my removal?
We recommend booking as early as you can once your dates are confirmed. End-of-month dates and the summer months are the busiest periods for London removals and fill up quickly. If you need to move at short notice, contact us and we will do our best to accommodate you.
Are my belongings insured during the removal?
Yes. RMV carries goods-in-transit and public liability insurance on all removals. As accredited members of the Association of Independent Movers (AIM), we meet recognised industry standards for insurance and customer protection. Full policy details are confirmed at quotation stage.
What is AIM accreditation and why does it matter?
AIM (the Association of Independent Movers) is a UK trade body for professional removal and storage companies. Membership means a company has been independently assessed against standards for insurance, staff training, customer service and financial protection. Choosing an AIM-accredited remover like RMV gives you a recognised standard of service and a formal complaints process if anything goes wrong.
What areas of London do you cover?
We cover every London borough and carry out UK-wide moves. Our main operating areas include Enfield, Barnet, Haringey, Hackney, Islington, Camden, Waltham Forest, Newham, Tower Hamlets, Havering, Redbridge, Southwark, Lambeth and Wandsworth. We also handle European removals to more than 20 countries.
Do you offer commercial and office removals?
Yes. Alongside home removals we handle commercial and office relocations across London, planning the move to keep your business downtime to a minimum. We can work around your schedule, including evenings and weekends, and manage everything from IT equipment to office furniture.
Do you offer international and European removals?
Yes. We provide professional removals to and from more than 20 European countries, including full and part-load options. Our experienced team handles the packing, transport and logistics so your international move is as straightforward and stress-free as a local one.
Do you provide packing services and materials?
Yes. We offer full packing, part-packing and unpacking using professional-grade materials, and our packing shop supplies removal boxes, wardrobe boxes, bubble wrap and tape if you prefer to pack yourself. Fragile and high-value items are wrapped and protected with particular care.
How does door-to-door storage work?
With our door-to-door storage service we bring a storage container to your property, our team dismantles, wraps and loads your furniture, and we take the container back to our secure Rainham warehouse. When you need your belongings, we deliver the container back to you. You never have to visit the storage facility or transport anything yourself.
How much does storage cost?
Our container storage starts from £140 per week for a single container and ranges up to £590 per week for six containers, with all prices inclusive of insurance and VAT. The number of containers you need depends on the size of your property — a single container suits students or small loads, while five to six containers suit a four to five-bedroom home. Contact us for a tailored quote.
What size are your storage containers?
Each storage container is 155cm (5 feet) wide by 215cm (7 feet) deep by 245cm (8 feet) tall. That is 3.3 square metres (35 square feet) of floor space and 8 cubic metres (280 cubic feet) of capacity. It is very unlikely that an item of furniture will not fit.
Are my items insured while in storage?
Yes. Each storage container includes insurance cover for goods up to a total value of £1,000. If your belongings are worth more, you can purchase additional cover. Our warehouse storage is fully insured as standard.
Can I access my belongings while they are in storage?
Yes. As long as you give us at least one working day’s notice we can arrange access to your container. A small handling fee of £5 (VAT included) applies. For permanent retrieval of your goods we ask for at least five working days’ notice.
Is your storage facility secure?
Yes. Our containers are stored inside a modern warehouse at 35a Marsh Way, Rainham RM13 8UH, within a gated business estate with 24-hour on-site security and CCTV monitoring. Access is restricted to pre-booked visits, so your belongings are protected at all times.
Do I need to visit the storage facility myself?
No. Our storage is fully door-to-door: we collect and deliver the container to your address and you can sign all the relevant documents online. If you do prefer to drop off or collect items yourself in your own vehicle, you are welcome to do so free of charge.
