RMV Storage & Removals provides professional removals from the UK to the Czech Republic, covering full load, part load and groupage services with complete post-Brexit customs clearance, Transfer of Residence documentation and door-to-door delivery to Prague, Brno, Ostrava, Plzeň, Liberec and all Czech regions.

UK to Czech Republic Removal Cost

The Czech Republic occupies a unique position in Central Europe. Prague consistently ranks among Europe's most visited capitals and most liveable cities, attracting British professionals, academics, entrepreneurs and lifestyle movers in growing numbers each year. Beyond Prague, the country offers Brno's thriving technology and university scene, Ostrava's regenerating industrial city with its affordable property market, and the spa towns and countryside of Bohemia and Moravia.

Since 1 January 2021, however, the Czech Republic is an EU member state and the UK is a third country. Every household goods removal from the UK to the Czech Republic now requires a formal customs clearance process with the Celní správa České republiky (Czech Customs). Qualifying for Transfer of Residence relief, which allows your belongings to be imported without paying Czech import VAT at 21%, requires specific documentation that must be prepared correctly before the vehicle crosses the Czech border.

RMV manages the full Czech customs process on your behalf, including the Celní prohlášení (Czech customs declaration), the itemised and valued inventory, and the customs agent authorisation. Full company details and AIM accreditation are on our About Us page.

Post-Brexit Customs Clearance for Removals to Czech Republic: What You Need to Know

Since Brexit, all removals from the UK to the Czech Republic require customs clearance. To import household goods duty-free, you must qualify for Czech Transfer of Residence relief under the Celní prohlášení procedure.

The Czech customs authority (Celní správa České republiky) requires formal declaration of all household goods entering the country from outside the EU. For British nationals relocating their primary residence to the Czech Republic, the Transfer of Residence scheme provides exemption from Czech import VAT (21% of the declared value of goods), but only where all eligibility conditions are met and all required documents are supplied correctly before the shipment arrives at the Czech border.

The eligibility conditions for Czech Transfer of Residence relief are: the importer must have been resident outside the EU for at least 12 months prior to the move date; all goods must have been owned and used by the importer at their UK residence for at least six months; the goods must be imported within 12 months of the date the importer establishes Czech residence; and the importer must not sell, pledge or otherwise transfer the imported goods for at least 12 months after import.

British nationals moving to the Czech Republic require a residence permit for stays exceeding 90 days in any 180-day period. While RMV does not arrange visas or residence permits, our move managers coordinate your shipment timeline around your confirmed Czech residency documentation, because Czech customs will require proof of Czech residence as part of the customs clearance process.

Documents Required for Removals to Czech Republic from the UK

The following documents are required for Czech Transfer of Residence customs clearance. RMV provides all blank forms and pre-departure document review as standard.

  • Passport copy, identity and nationality confirmation for Czech customs (Celní správa)
  • Czech proof of residence: rental contract, property deed or registration confirmation
  • Itemised and valued inventory of all goods being moved, signed and dated, with second-hand estimated values for each item category
  • Completed Celní prohlášení (Czech customs declaration) for Transfer of Residence import duty and VAT exemption
  • Self-certificate confirming goods have been owned and used at UK residence for more than six months and will not be sold or transferred within 12 months of import
  • Signed customs agent authorisation form, permitting RMV to act as your direct representative with Czech customs
  • Proof of 12 months' UK residence prior to the move date: council tax bills, bank statements or a UK Certificate of Residence
  • CMR cargo movement form, completed on the day of collection by the driver

Incorrectly completed customs documents are the most consistent cause of delays at the Czech border. RMV reviews every document package before the vehicle departs the UK. All packing materials for a Czech Republic move are available through our Packing Shop.

Who We Move to Czech Republic

Professionals and Entrepreneurs Relocating to Prague

Prague is the primary destination for British professionals moving to the Czech Republic, driven by the city's growing technology and startup ecosystem, its established financial services sector, and the presence of major international companies with European headquarters in the capital. Professional relocations to Prague are typically one to three-bedroom flat contents on a confirmed employer start date. Our man and van service handles smaller professional moves, and our removals service manages full household relocations with customs coordination as a single booking.

Students and Academics Moving to Brno and Prague

The Czech Republic has a strong university sector: Charles University in Prague, Masaryk University in Brno and the Czech Technical University attract British postgraduate students and researchers in significant numbers. These moves are typically small in volume and cost-sensitive, making part load or groupage the standard choice. Part load removals to the Czech Republic start from a few cubic metres, suitable for a studio or single room.

Families and Retirees Making a Permanent Move to Czech Republic

British families relocating permanently to the Czech Republic, typically to Prague's residential districts or the Bohemian countryside, generally require full-load removals: the complete contents of a three to five-bedroom property including furniture, white goods and personal effects. Pre-departure storage through our storage service bridges the gap where the UK property is vacated before the Czech property is ready for occupation.

Businesses Setting Up Czech Operations

Commercial relocations from UK offices to Czech premises require EORI-registered customs handling and commercial invoice documentation. Prague's business districts and Brno's technology parks are the primary destinations for UK business relocations. Our removals service covers commercial relocations to the Czech Republic for businesses of all sizes.

Service Options: Full Load, Part Load and Groupage Removals to Czech Republic

RMV offers three transport formats for UK-to-Czech Republic removals. The right choice depends on volume, budget and how quickly you need your belongings to arrive.

Full Load (Exclusive Vehicle)

Your belongings occupy the entire vehicle from UK collection to Czech delivery. The vehicle loads at your address and travels directly to your Czech destination, with customs clearance en route. Full load to Prague typically takes 3–4 days door to door; to Brno and Ostrava 3–5 days; to Plzeň and Liberec 3–4 days. Full load is standard for three-bedroom or larger household moves and for any move where schedule certainty is critical.

Part Load and Groupage (Shared Vehicle)

Your belongings are consolidated with those of other customers moving to the Czech Republic or Central Europe. You pay only for the cubic metreage your goods occupy. Part load delivery to Prague typically takes 5–10 days door to door; to Brno and Ostrava 6–10 days. Part load is the standard choice for studios, one-bedroom flats, student moves and any move where cost is the primary consideration.

Pre-Departure Storage

Where the UK departure date and Czech arrival date do not align, our storage service holds packed contents in secure UK storage until the Czech property is confirmed and ready, avoiding the need to keep packed boxes at a vacated UK address.

Removals to Key Czech Cities and Regions

RMV delivers to all Czech regions and cities. Estimated door-to-door transit times from London are provided below.

  • Prague (Praha), the Czech capital and the primary destination for British professionals, entrepreneurs and expats. Full load 3–4 days; part load 5–10 days.
  • Brno, the Czech Republic's second city and a major technology and university hub in Moravia. Full load 3–5 days; part load 6–10 days.
  • Ostrava, the regenerating industrial city in the north-east, popular for its affordable property and growing creative scene. Full load 4–5 days; part load 6–10 days.
  • Plzeň (Pilsen), western Bohemia's industrial and cultural city, known internationally for its brewing heritage. Full load 3–4 days; part load 5–10 days.
  • Liberec, northern Bohemia's mountain city, popular with outdoor enthusiasts and the German-border commuter community. Full load 3–4 days; part load 5–10 days.
  • České Budějovice (Budweis), the South Bohemian capital, gateway to the Šumava National Park and popular with families seeking a slower pace. Full load 3–5 days; part load 5–10 days.

All times include customs clearance. Border delays are almost exclusively caused by incomplete documentation. For Czech Republic moving guides and relocation advice, visit our blog.

Frequently Asked Questions, Removals to Czech Republic from the UK

Do I need customs clearance for removals to Czech Republic since Brexit?

Yes. Since 1 January 2021, all removals from the UK to the Czech Republic require formal customs clearance with the Celní správa České republiky. There are no exemptions based on volume or value. RMV manages the complete customs documentation process on your behalf as standard on every UK-to-Czech Republic booking.

What is the Czech Transfer of Residence process and do I need it?

The Czech Transfer of Residence process allows qualifying British nationals to import household goods without paying Czech import VAT (21% of declared value). You must be relocating your primary residence to the Czech Republic, have been resident outside the EU for at least 12 months, and have owned all goods for at least six months. RMV prepares all required documentation including the Celní prohlášení and reviews every document package before the vehicle departs the UK.

Can I move to Czech Republic without paying 21% import VAT on my belongings?

Yes, if you qualify for Transfer of Residence relief. All items must be imported within 12 months of establishing Czech residence and must not be sold or transferred for at least 12 months after import. RMV prepares and reviews all required documents.

What is part load removals to Czech Republic and is it suitable for a small move?

Part load means your belongings share vehicle space with other customers' goods moving to the Czech Republic or Central Europe. You pay only for the cubic metres your items occupy, making it the most cost-effective option for studios, one-bedroom flats and student moves. Delivery takes slightly longer than a full load: typically 5–10 days to Prague. RMV's international removals service offers part load departures on regular schedules to the Czech Republic.

Do I need a visa or residence permit to live in Czech Republic?

UK citizens can visit the Czech Republic for up to 90 days in any 180-day period without a visa. For stays exceeding 90 days, including permanent relocation, a residence permit from Czech authorities is required. RMV does not arrange visas or residence permits but coordinates your shipment timeline around your confirmed residency documentation.

Can you help with furniture assembly or setup at my Czech property?

Yes. RMV's handyman service covers furniture assembly, dismantling and fixture installation, available at the UK origin address and, by arrangement, at the Czech destination for clients who need practical help setting up their new home on arrival.

How far in advance should I book a removal to Czech Republic?

For full-load removals of three bedrooms or larger, four to six weeks is recommended to allow time for survey, customs documentation preparation and vehicle scheduling. For part load bookings, two to three weeks is usually sufficient. For urgent or same-week requirements, call 0208 0900 232 directly.
